Hunter Hornets Caring for the Community
Hunter Hornets “kicked in” and collected canned goods for an Apple for Ryan. Ryan Sergent was participating in a cross country practice for Flat Rock High school when because of a heart condition he fell and passed away. In memory of Ryan’s contributions to local food pantries, his mother Evelyn (Sergent) Kosowski formed Ryan’s friends to hold a food drive every October in Ryan’s memory to meet the needs of the less fortunate.
Mrs. Ferguson brought this community food drive to Hunter Elementary to the children. Her goal, fill her office with canned goods. She even gave the students a bit of incentive to do so. Mrs. Ferguson being the die hard Michigan State fan she is, agreed to don maize and blue from head to toe, if the students would rise to the challenge of bringing in enough canned goods to fill her office.
It didn’t take long for the students of Hunter to collect 48 cases of non-perishable items for an Apple for Ryan. The items were boxed and delivered to the Woodhaven collection site. So, on October 14, 2011, Mrs. Ferguson had to become a head to toe U of M fan! Way to go Hornets!!!!!
