 Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-11 educational progress for Shumate Middle School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mr. Brad Coon, Principal, for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following website

www.gibdist.net/gibdist/schools/Shumate  or  you may review a physical copy located in our main office.

Shumate Middle School achieved AYP for the 2010-11 school year in Language Arts and Mathematics. While we are proud of this accomplishment, we continue to improve upon the delivery, assessment and content of our curriculum. We appreciate the continued support of our parents, staff and community in these efforts.

State law requires that we also report the following information:

· Students attending Shumate Middle School are provided bus transportation as needed

· A copy of the Common Core State Standards can be found at www.mde.gov. The curriculum is implemented by district administrators, with the assistance of subject curriculum committees, and the district school improvement team. There are no variations from the state curriculum.

· Student achievement results on MEAP testing may be found on our school’s website (above).

· Parent-Teacher Conferences are held each year. Face-to-face conferences are highly encouraged and each year our parent participation has improved.
