Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2009-2010 educational progress for Downriver High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mr. Jason Evers, Principal, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.gibdist.net/gibdist/schools/Downriver or you may review a copy from the main office at your child’s school.
For 2009-2010, Downriver High School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts and mathematics; however, we are still identified for RESTRUCTURING. We must make AYP for two consecutive years to no longer be identified for improvement. For 2010-2011 Downriver High School became a Shared Educational Entity with our consortium districts and did not receive a report for AYP. Our efforts to increase student achievement continue to be guided by information gathered through assessments and surveys. Our actions included:
· Focused on Project Based Learning with real world outcomes to increase relevancy
· Expanded our course offerings targeting subject areas where test scores were not proficient
· Continued with MME and ACT preparation classes
· Increased Workforce Preparedness Classes with Job Shadowing
· Increased the number of students in Career Tech Education classes through Downriver Career Technical Consortium
· Created Student Support Services through Teen Parent Group and Teen Coalition
A key step to our continued success will be further development of our School Improvement Team. Our staff is committed to the process and we encourage parents and community members to join us! Please contact Jason Evers at Downriver High School if you are interested.
State law requires that we also report this additional information:
· Students in Downriver High School District are assigned through a referral system from the districts participating in the Downriver Career Technical Consortium.
· The school improvement plan is reviewed and updated by staff yearly.
· A copy of our core curriculum can be accessed by contacting Downriver High School.
· Student achievement results on MEAP and MME testing may be found at our school’s website, http://www.gibdist.net/gibdist/schools/Downriver. Aggregate student achievement results for the last two years can be found on the district annual report website.
· Parent teacher conferences are held each fall and spring. We have 21% participation through personal face to face contact. If such contact cannot be arranged, a phone conference is held with parents unable to attend.
· Downriver High School had zero dual enrollments and zero college equivalence courses offered.
This year we have demonstrated academic success by increasing our Graduation Rate. We have also created a positive school culture through various extra-curricular activities and a climate of caring. I have every confidence that these successes will be repeated and improved upon during the upcoming school year!
Enthusiastically,
Jason Evers
