Carlson High School's Ebb Tide Yearbook named one of 57 best in the nation

On Monday, February 9, 2009, the National Scholastic Press Association released its list of Pacemaker Finalists.  Only 57 books from around the country made the list and only three of those books were from Michigan.  Once again, the Carlson yearbook was included as one of the top books.  Edited by Ester M., the 2008 book incorporated the theme FYI so that specific details about Carlson would be recorded for students to remember.

The NSPA Yearbook Pacemaker contest has existed since 1927 and is considered student journalism’s highest honor.  Of the 422 entries, the 57 winners were judged on a number of factors including excellent photography, complete coverage, innovative design and exemplary copy.  As a group, the judges noted that their job, “Was a difficult one because of the considerable amount of top-notch books entered this year.” One of the judges said, “A Pacemaker recognizes a publication that showcases strong student work in all areas of publishing—writing, design, photography and concept.  The finalists created a unique publication that gave us, the judges, a sense of what the year was like for this specific group of students.”

The 2008 yearbook staff included:  Ester M., editor-in-chief; Erin E., assistant editor; Travis W., computer technician; Kaitlin P., sports editor; Paul J., business manager; and staff members: Krystal G., Julianne C., Hollie A., Chelsey A., Dustin C., Tayler G., Christopher H., James M., Alyssa M., Cassandra O., Cory P., Victoria R., Katherine R., Alexandra T., Jessica T. and Paige W.  These students put hard work and dedication into a publication that has brought recognition not only to their school but also to themselves.  Good Job 2008 yearbook staff!  The 2009 Ebb Tide yearbook is now on sale.  The cost is $76.  Books may be purchased from any 2009 staff member or Mrs. Strall.  If you prefer, books may also be purchased with a credit card online at yearbooks.biz
