Mechanical Drafting/CAD

This course is designed for those students who have an interest in the field of industry and engineering, and for those who want a basic understanding of drafting and computer aided drafting [Cad]. The basic fundamentals of mechanical drafting along with CAD will be presented and practiced through a variety of drawings. This is an excellent hands-on class offering the student some practical applications of math, problem solving and technological skills.

Advanced Mechanical Drafting/CAD

This course is designed to give students a strong background in the field of Mechanical Drafting and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). A basic background of machine drafting and architecture will also be covered in this course. This is an ideal course for students interested in engineering, architecture and computer aided drafting/design.

Technology 2008

This technology class is designed to prepare students with the skills necessary to use technology to develop solutions to problems. The class will integrate Science, Math, and English into developing projects Group works, cooperative learning, problem solving and social skills will be used to prepare students to succeed in post secondary schooling or work, some of the projects are listed below: Co2 Cars, Magnetism, electric motors, manufacturing units, solid fuel rockets, egg drop - car crash, remote control aircraft.

Vocational Auto I

The class is designed for knowledge in the service of automobiles. This class also gives practical experience in the service of automobiles in addition to information and techniques that are necessary for Auto II. Some topics that are covered are tune-up, brakes, lubrication, engines, valves, and manual transmissions. The student will be able to function more proficiently in Auto II.

Vocational Auto II

The class is designed to prepare the student for career opportunities in the automotive service area. Students will learn the more advanced concepts of automotive service such as front end alignment, air conditioning, transmissions, service, charging system, translator ignition, diagnostic tune up. Upon completion of the courses, the student will be qualified for a service position in a dealership.

Building Trades II

This class builds a house from start to finish. Students learn to apply the knowledge from Building Trades I, plus meet deadlines, understand the importance of building codes and a teamwork concept.

Auto/Home Maintenance I

This class is to prepare the students for the two biggest purchases in their life (home and automobile). The auto section will include basic service, purchasing a car, and driveway maintenance (things you can do at home). The home section will include basic repairs of electrical, plumbing, heating as well as maintenance. Joint topics that relate to both auto and home are financing, getting a loan, insurance, protecting your investment and selling. Emphasis in both sections will be on “do it yourself” and consumerism. We will also discuss auto leasing and apartment (home) renting.

Heating And Cooling I

New methods and techniques for energy conservation will be dealt with throughout the program. Emphasis will be on learning the various types of air-cooling and heating equipment including the controls needed for operation. This program will deal with the development as well as the containment of warm or cool air after an appliance provides it.

Heating And Cooling II

Advanced study and experience dealing with system troubleshooting and repair will be covered. Students will also be informed of system design and heat loss fundamentals. Solar energy and heat pump systems will be covered.

Commercial Art And Design

“Commercial Art Design” is a course of instruction intended to explore functional and practical areas of art as an informational medium. Sign painting, lettering, calligraphy, instructional art in the classroom, inspirational slogans, and school spirit items are among the various types of projects, which will be planned, organized, and executed by the students. Computers will be incorporated with traditional techniques in the production of works throughout the various school campuses. Careers that will be explored including, but not limited to: Graphic Design, Package Design, Illustration, Fashion Design, and Art Education. Students will maintain a portfolio of all work in this two-hour block.

Vocational Video Production

This course is designed to develop a wide range of skills related to the field of video production. Students will be given assignments reflecting what they would be doing if they were employed in video. Students must be prepared to write scripts, appear on screen occasionally, edit and product Students will learn technical skills like editing, camera technique and operation, audio, graphics and basic wiring. Students considering this course should be prepared for a highly academic/technical program. Participation in productions is mandatory. Regular tests written assignments, and projects will be a requisite. Many projects will require taping outside of class time.

Television Production I

This course is designed to be an overview of the field of video production. Assignments will be related to the video indorse, if one was employed in the field. Students will write scripts and other written work. Additionally camera techniques will be taught with some work in editing. Students should expect to appear both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Students considering this course should be prepared to participate in all productions. Assignments will be on an individual basis and occasionally in-groups. Written tests and assignments are also part of this course.

Television Production II

TV Production II continues to build on terms and techniques taught in the first course. Emphasis will be placed on significant improvement of camera and editing skills. Written tests and assignments will be included. Students are required to complete 5 hours of work outside of class per quarter to receive credit. These hours are obtained by taping Carlson School events, crewing on productions at local cable companies or other instructor-approved projects.
